Worst Moment
Subic, I got bacillary dysentery after we left Subic for a MAULEX, was flown off the ship via CH-53, Who did I run into as I got on board? My CO Lt. Long he was taking a spent fire extinguisher somewhere to get replaced, he had no clue that I was sick.. the look on his face was kinda *oh shit* we didn't talk to much no helmet for me.
Chain of Command
Platoon Commander Lt. Jarvis Kenton Long
Worst Moment
This was winter training, those of us from Recon were NOT the trainers. I dehydrated badly, it was so fucking cold, our mummy-bags were rated to 20ºF it got to -15º or more every night. The training, supply, preparations SUCKED.
Other Memories
I guess I should NOT have taken that Schnapps with me, it exacerbated the dehydration.
Best Friends
LCPL Kevin Casey, Docs Downs & Derksma, LCPL Reed, LCPL Mark Johnson from Livingston TX.
Best Moment
Mt Warfare Trng Cntr. Bridgeport
Worst Moment
AmphibRecon Course (basic), a month long school that tested me severely. If it had not have been for the Force Recon Sgt. grabbing me during the 3 mile swim and helping me finish I'd have become fishshit... ( I worked on swimming after that...)
Best Moment
The 1st. Lt., I think his name was Jensen, allowed me to lead the trainees up the mountain, I jogged all the way every day that I led trainees....it killed the troops that had just came from sea-level.
2nd Best Moment The Plt Commander holding a special formation to watch me shave my miserably thin goatee off. When we got back to Horno, I switched to Marine Regs uniforms. I know that the pic on the left is in want of a hair cut, I was gettin' short and with 3rd tanks then.
Worst Moment
free climbing by myself...
2nd Worst Moment Loosing my dog tags with the *Liberty* dime that had been cut out, showing only the statue, on a hard run before the Marines that were to be trained came. I think we did this kinda stuff for 3 weeks... It sucked... @ 9,000 feet... GASP GASP. Refer to the above *Best Moment*
Other Memories
We, 1st Recon were the training cadre for 2 infantry Battalions. I've forgotten which ones they were... all from CAMPEN
Best Moment
Finishing the Course, and graduating in the top 10.
Worst Moment
3 mile swim, if it had not been for the Sgt. from 1st Force Recon (disbanded) I would not have finished. When we got to the rally point/finish line I could not walk for a bit of time... ( not enuf flutter kicks with fins on)
