Biography Sergeant Major Joe D. Armstrong United States Marine Corps (Retired)
Sergeant Major Armstrong was bor January 31, 1940 in Olivehill, Kentucky. As an "Army Brat" he moved around the world with his family following his father. After graduating from South San Francisco High School in 1957 he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. At his request after completing 30 years, 1 month and 7 days of active service as a Marine, Sergeant Major Armstrong retired on September 1, 1987 at Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton, California.
During his thirty plus years as a Marine, he has served his Corps and Country on land, sea and in the air. He has performed duties in infantry, communication, electronic warfare, intelligence, formal school instructor, amphibious assault vehicles, fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, and command and control. He has served in Asia, Africa, North America, Central America, Australia and Europe, and aboard units afloat in the Indian Ocean, South China Sea, Sea of Japan, Pacific Ocean, Caribbean, Atlantic Ocean, North Sea and Mediterranean Sea.
He has seen combat action in Vietnam, Laos and South China Sea.

Sergeant Major Armstrong for six years was a founding member, designer, web master and Senior Military Advisor to the national social media website Togetherweserved.com, recognizing all veterans who served Honorably, past and present. Â He continues his labor of love by assisting family members in creating Military Memorial Profiles, for those Marines and Corpsman who have preceded us.
He is a Life Member of the Marine Corps League in Sedro Wooley, WA;Â Veterans of Foreign Wars in Snohomish, WA and an annual member of American Legion in Arlington, WA. Widowed in 1922, the late Judith Armstrong, he packed his sea bag and now resides with his son John and family in Arlington, WA.
