Cpl. Herbert Lampley entered the Marine Corps on 9 September 1942, serving until 4 October 1945.
In January 1943, was with Company A, 3rd Parachute Battalion, (ACPF), Amphibious Corps, Camp Elliott, San Diego, California.
To April 1943, with A Company, Infantry Battalion, Training Center, Camp Elliot, San Diego.
July 1943, 17th Replacement Battalion, In the Field.
This unit was disbanded and assigned to the 1st Marine Division, FMF on 1 July 1943.
Assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, FMF July 1943 at Australia.
In September 1943, to Oro Bay/Papua New Guinea (subjected to aerial bombardment by Japanese planes during trip from Australia to New Guinea).
In January 1944, PFC Lampley with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, FMF at U.S. Army 363 Station Hospital, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. (Wounded in action at Silimanti Point, Cape Gloucester, New Britain or other battle at Cape Gloucester in January 1944.) { this from Marine Muster Roll for 1-31 January 1944}
Evacuated in April 1944 by government air to then destination unknown. PFC with an MOS 504, with C Company, 1/7. In July 1944, with Casualty Company, Division Hq. Battalion, FMF: USN Fleet Hospital #109, Navy Unit # 134; 23 by S/R to HQDP (Brisbane, Australia).
In October 1944, sent from S/RS/ from Casualty Company Number 4, MB, USNH San Leandro, California. (PFC with MOS 607) to Barracks Detachment, Marine Barracks, Naval Ammunition Depot, Hastings, Nebraska. Still there in January 1945.
April 1945, with 5th Training Battalion, Regiment, Infantry Training Regiment, MTC, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. MOS 607. PFC.
July 1945 Infantry Training Battalion (Weapons), Infantry Training Regiment, MTC, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina MOS 607. PFC.
With 2nd Guard Company, Guard Battalion, Marine Barracks, Quantico, Virginia. MOS 607. PFC.
October 1945, Casual Company, Marine Barracks, at Quantico, Virginia awaiting honorable discharge.
